I would go with the maximum OEM backspacing of 50mm
but finding rims with that particular backspacing is going
to be hard. You will probably get what you can find.
You can only tuck so much tire under the fenders as Ford does
and wider tires/rims requires you to put the rim and tire farther
out. Turning forces and loads begin to get larger the farther
out you go on the front.

You probably don't want to use the 18x10's because they will stick out a lot. Just do the 18x9 all around in the older model offset.

will_c what widths are your rims? And db and warmachine thanks for all your help. So you think i should go 9" all around with 50mm? I wonder how it would be if i put 8's in the front

you dont need a 50mm off set with 10's. most likely the 18x9 and 10's will come in a 36mm offset if you buy the 05+ s-style wheels. Be sure to get 255/45/18 tires up front and a 295/45/18 tires for the rear.

ok funny story. I went to a rim and tire store by me and i just wanted to make sure i was getting a good deal. I walk in, the guy looks at me and looks down at his desk. We're off to a good start. Im like hey i was wondering if you could tell me how much it would cost to get some rims and tires for my car. Hes like yeah what kind are they, i show him a picture i brought and im like they are saleen replicas. He looks at me all weird and goes why do you want replicas? I reply because i dont feel like paying a bunch of money for the saleen ones cause they are most likely super expensive and these look identical. Anywaysm i tell him where he can find them but he insists on these rims from american eagle wheels and says that they are the same(not even close) Than hes like what size? I tell him 18" for a 2008 mustang. Heres what i hate most, i get that look like oh that kid must be one of those spoiled ones(not at all true, i pay every cent for my car with no help) He goes to the computer and types in 17" which i correct him. He messed up the size about four times. And when he finally finds the rims(which still wasnt right because they were chrome) he calls up the warehouse to get the price...........for just the rims. After he hangs up hes like oh it will be 14. I look at him in shock and reply "1400? For just the rims?" Hes like yeah, the shipping cost is expensive for those so that kinda hurts the price. I glare at him for a second and im like "yeah thats not gonna happen" i just left.

People are insane. Sorry for the long post. That was just a terrible experience and figured id share it with you guys(and get my frustration out)

sizes are written like this: width of tire in mm/percentage of width for sidewall/wheel diameter

so a 255/45/18 would be 255mm wide, 45% of 255 sidewall, and fit 18 inch wheels. some quick math: 45% of 255mm = 114.75mm, convert 114.75mm to inches, and you find the sidewall is about 4.5 inches

295/45/18 would be a sidewall of about 5.25 inches

"Mustang Batman" (is that his name?) has these http://www.americanmuscle.com/blsawh1.html
For tires, 255/45/18 is a great choice. Not too wide to make the tires stick out ridiculously, but definitely wider than stock 235mm tires.
Nitto 555 is a good brand with a nice tread pattern and a decent price. The tread wear is average.
