Default Wheel Sensor Question

Hello, I am very close to getting new wheels for my car. I have an 08, so my car has wheel sensors. Are these 100% needed? What would happen if I put the new wheels on without sensors?

Can I eliminate the warning light (if one comes on) with a handheld programmer?

Thanks,
Mike

PS How much are sensors are where can I get them from, just in case I have to put them on the new wheels.

cant eliminate the sensors, i think your sensor light will just keep coming on, i recently just switched wheels with my dad, my sensor alert went on everytime i started the car, for about 4 times, and then just turned off. idk if the computer learned the new sensors, or what, but now there gone

With no sensors you'll get the light and will have to reset it. I swapped the sensors to my new wheels. The shop that mounted my new tires to my new wheels broke down my old tires and did the swap for no charge. Just need to buy the strap kits...

If you go bigger you just have to buy bigger bands, don't let them talk you into telling you that you need new sensors ($$$), becauseyou dont, just buy bigger bands, I did for my Shelby 20"s, and they only cost $40 for all four and the shop will swap them over to the new wheels with the larger bands, I had two places try to tell me that I needed new sensors...including the dealership! Luckily I went to Discount Tire and they hooked me up, got new tires and wheels and sensors switched over to the new wheels and was out the door in a hour.

The cheapest way is to just hit the reset button... thats what I do its no trouble at all.
