Engine Break In
Alright, I know that that I should be easy on the engine during the engine "break-in" period, but getting on it a bit can't be too bad for it, can it? I mean, does anyone really wait 600+ miles to see what this bad boy can do?
I ask because I've flipped through the gears pretty fast a couple times and I'd feel better knowing that others have too without any problems.

dont take it easy on her
thats the worst thing for a motor
heres what you do right off the lot
let her warm up at 2000 rpm to break in the cams
then 2nd gear floor it till bout 1000 below redline and let off fast down to 2000
do this 10 times then the rings are seated and all broke in
if you take it easy the rings wont seat and you get a lame motor for ever then
also never go at steady speed until over 1000 miles and any length of time
hope that helps

I've been messing with cars and bikes since the mid-70's and this argument has been going on at least that long if not longer. "Break it in hard and it'll run hard" was the mantra I used to hear back then from the full-throttle break-in camp. I've broken in all my new cars and bikes gently, and I've never had any problems with any of them. I've put well over 100k on 3 of the cars and none of them ever burned oil or developed smoky exhaust. I really don't think it makes much of a difference, these days motors are built with very tight tolerances that they don't need specific break-ins like they did 30+ years ago.
Be carefull taking info from people on the internet, some speak like it is written in stone, some have stones in there head. You may be unplesantly surprised to find out that some of the people who give advice don't have a clue.
Read the owners manual. Talk to real mechanics, then you decide, it's you're money.

O.K. If that's the case, I hava a break in question that has been lingering in my head for a while...
I get my baby next week, I already have the cat-backs, CAI, 4.10's and waiting for the SCT. How long then will I have to wait until I can install my mods. To be honest, I don't think I can hold out for more than a week. That's my break in question!
Any input on that????

I plan to run the car completely stock until break in is done, then get some baseline tests, then test after each modification is done. That way I will know the exact gain I get from each modification. Otherwise you're just guessing.
Anytime I ask, or someone asks me, it's the same answer, and it make sense to me, Drive anyway you like, just don't keep it at the exact rpm all the time for 1000 miles (as in don't take it on a 6 hour highway joy ride with the cruise control on)
