Why cant my mustang reach the 5.1 advertised 0-60 time?
I have a 2007 gt automatic transmission mustang. I noticed the advertised 0-60 time is 5.1 seconds. I have never even been able to get anywhere near this time, it's mostly around 6.4 seconds. Is the reason because I am not launching the car properly?
Usually I just wait until a green light and then mash on the gas pedal until I'm at 60. I read on some other forum that to properly launch an auto you have to keep your foot on the brake and rev the engine to 2000 RPM and then release the brake when the green light starts. Is this the proper way to do it? If I learn how to properly launch my car will I be able to obtain the 5.1 0-60 time? I have the roush off road exhaust kit with the square tips so I think my car might have a tiny bit more horsepower than a stock GT.

No offense, but that's not really the answer I was looking for.

To get a quicker time you must hold the brake and hold the gas pedal at the same time until your car starts to inch forward then just let off the brake. Its called power braking.

is this the technique they used to get the official 5.1s time?

RE: Why can'
power break it. and the same reason you cant reach the advertised 0-60 time is why most people cant reach the advertised quarter mile times; its under certian conditions with a good driver.

Never mind him. Just a dum fuc that knows nothing about basically anything. You need to power brake. I thought the time was 4.9 seconds.

some magazines use "roll-out" times where the car is allowed to roll for a certain distance/time like at a drag strip. these are usually a few tenths quicker then measuring from a dead stop.
also, elevation, weather, etc. has a large influence on a cars performance.
i think car and driver was the only major magazine i've seen that has quoted the 5.1 sec 0-60 time. most others quote 5.3 to 5.7...

I don't think power braking was part of Fords time trials
