Programming on 08 mustangs
ok i just got a new mustang GT and its a 2008 i was talking to a guy i know that was big on the 03 mustangs and i was talking to him about an intake and an x- pipe but he seemed to think that the programing of the 08s wont be able to have bolt ons with out programing the car first is this true or could i put a intake on it with out any problems?

You can get an intake that does not require a tune. However, they normally do not provide much performance increase. A tune and CAI (such as a C&L or JLT) would be the best bet. Brennspeed has some nice packages and you can look at Bama if you have an automatic (He seems to be the master of the slush box).

The '05 thru '07 S197's all take tunes and I would assume the 08's do. I've heard that the '08's can adapt to different fuel as opposed to the older models but I really don't know. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't retune an '08 like the others for all the bolt-ons out there.
But a CAI w/o a tune, even those that claim they don't need a tune, will most likely throw a CEL.

My '08's driveability has significantly improved thanks to Brenspeed, a C&L intake and a tune. No problem yet, been at least 4k miles.
My research indicated what everyone else has said, there are intakes that don't require a tune, however the results
are minor overall. The tune is really what changes the way the care behaves. I can't recall what it was like without!

There are a few CAI's that don't need a tune but a tune will make them perform even better.
I got an S&B intake it doesn't need require a tune, and it did cure some of the throttle lag (no CEL's of any kind) but when I got my tuner it was so much better. Changing the mufflers won't affect it but if you do a complete exhaust then you will have to get a tuner.
The manufacturers will usualy state whether ornot an intake will need a tuner or not.
