Not just resting on it....listen to it as he puts it down and slides it under...he even lets it go and you hear the snap as it hits the underside as well...I have no doubt that if I had this particuar one I'd have to do some sort of "padding" behind it so it didnt mar the paint on the bumper or underneath (since I'm so picky about that kinda stuff).

RE: Front Plate mounting ideas
Every time this topic comes up my inbox gets full of requests. I am not looking to sell these things, I am looking to sell the rights to a manufacturer.
Here's the info though:
Fits any vehicle (some will require some simple fabrication I'm sure)
Operates totally within a 3/4 inch space
Adjustable for different vehicle applications
Works on front or rear of vehicle (for you police chase types)
100% hidden when retracted, no brackets or anything showing
Flip-down protection at high speeds (won't flip downwards under car while retracted)
The entire mechanism never comes in contact with any painted parts of the vehicle
Any questions let me know, but remember I am not selling these things....just inventing them.

With a car as pretty as that one, I would just smile at the cop.....and tell him to write that ticket.
OR.....You could always lightly tint a front plate....and stick it on your dash in your window....low profile...and perfectly legal.
For most states that require front and rear plates....the plates doesn't have to be on the bumpers, they have to be "visible from the front and rear of the car."......
