I absolutely understand that speed is not everything, but it is definitely important. Just to give you an idea of how much quicker our cars are than the E46. I had only UDPs and a catted x-pipe when I ran my buddies M3 with a CAI and exhaust. We ran 40-120 on a private, backroad. I pulled hard by about 4-6 lengths. Pretty significant if you ask me. We ran 4 times with the same result everytime and he is a skilled driver

Remember, your maintenance/repair costs will go upscale too! A friend that has many Beamers says to never keep them past the warranty period... especially M series cars! (BTW, this friend now drives a Foose Mustang and considers it upscale to the BMWs he has had in the past)

TRUE!!! My dad had a Mercedes E class that was couple years old and they wanted $500 to just change the spark plugs ...

Go and test drive ae9x bmw 335i and 135i before you buy that e46 m3. The n54 twin turbo engine is so much better than the old m3 engine. It has 300 ftlbs of torque from 1500 rpm to 5500 rpm and still revs to 7 grand. My buddy just bought a 335i coupe and he says its way more fun to drive than his dad's e46 m3 vert. Plus with the 335i, you can buy a piggy back system for 400 bucks that puts you at 400 ftlbs of torque to the wheels.
I totally agree with above. My cousing got a 335 and though he cant take me, he definitely puts a hell of an effort but he is getting the Dinan chip and we will see what he can do. Besides, how could you not like the Bimmer. We got to all realize that most of us are CAR enthusiast and not just only Mustang enthusiasts.

either get a new M3....or a new 335i..... old M3 is not worth it....

if you go with the BMW i hope its better than the one i had. I had a 2003 328ci coupe which was total junk. the rear subframe fell out of it with only 50k miles. There was a list started on bimmerforums.com and it had over 1000 with the same problem. I had to take it up with BMW of North America and finally after months of hounding them they paid to fix it even though it was out of warranty. Would have cost me over $3000 to fix.That was only1 of a about 4 problems. I got it fixed and sold the car. First bmw i ever owned, didnt even have it a year, will never buy another one. just had to share my story, good luck on your decision.

Ironically, I was discussing a 2003 M3 vert when I bought my Stang. My dad just bought exactly what you're talking about (2005 M3 vert). The car had less than 15000 miles on it and I have 40000 on my Stang. He's got the upgraded everything on it as it was a 65k car brand new (we have the sticker). The radio (Harmon Kardon) is worse than my Shaker 500, his A-pillar cover is coming off on the inside, etc. Nice car overall, don't get me wrong. But I, like some others, think this is a step to the side. Not forward maybe backward slightly. I kept telling my dad to get the 335 or the 135, as both handily outperform the old M3. But if you want the M badge as my dad did, that's what you're paying for. His car is fun to drive in the high rpms (obviously) but I always miss my stang after driving it. If you're leaving the stang, get the brand new 135/335 (whichever fits you better). That's a step up in my opinion.
