Default mmmmmm....GEARS....

I had Ford Racing 4.10 gears installed this morning ($600 with tax) at Fastlane Motorsports in Benson, NC. Took about 3 hours.

The car drives so smoothly now! Doesn't feel so boggy anymore.

I was also correct in my pre-gear rpm calculations.....I used to run about 1950 rpm in 5th (3.31 stock gears) at 70mph, but now it's about 2450 rpm. It's noticeable because there's more exhaust noise, engine noise, and tranny noise, but the driving experience in the 0mph to 60mph range is AWESOME! I'm not even pushing it hard. This is the way the car should pull from the factory!

....and, yes, the gear part number ends in "A", so it's the good ones. The mechanic at Fastlane told me he wouldn't put Motives on his worst enemy's car. I have no gear whine at all. I'm very happy with the torque I now have.

An unexpected surprise from the gears is the way my exhaust purrs and burbles now. It would purr and burble some before, but it took more speed and it wasn't as pronounced. Now, when I'm just driving slowly in 1st around a parking lot or driveway and let off the gas, it has that rhythmic breathing sound like a lions growl. It's awesome! Also, when driving around 45-50mph in 5th (I wouldn't use 5th gear at 45-50 before), if I let off the gas just slightly the exhaust burbles and growls all the way down the road....not just for a second or two.

So far, I'm extremely pleased!

Side Note: While the mechanic had my BMR Panhard rod off he showed me where one of the bushings was splitting in 3 places. I don't know what caused that. Maybe I didn't grease it good enough....maybe it was a bad bushing to begin with..... I don't know. He told me to contact BMR about it. It should be an easy fix.

Indeed....the 4.10's are a tasty mod......Makes stoplight to stoplight a bunch of fun, doesn't it?

Grats,

Throw in an aluminum or carbon fiber DS and you'll be amazed You think the fun-to-drive factor went up with the 4.10's? Throw a 1-piece DS that weighs half of what the stock thing does and hold on to your butt![8D]

Glad it went well. Dang, everytime I read a gear post I get a semi. I'm getting my 3.73's
installed, parts/labor/shims (if needed I guess)and royal purple for $600.00 in 2 weeks.

I used to have 3.31s, my car computer used to always say around 15ish average mpg. I have a heavy right foot. With the 4.10s its always around 16ish.
