Default 2005 Mustang GT Storage......

Gonna be laying up the GT for a year(due to Navy Mobilization).

Looking for any inputs on storage?
I plan on changing the oil(been running Mobile 1 synthetic).
I have a nice car cover (from FordMoCo). Parked in my garage

It was suggested to lift on stands and lower tire air pressure. (Maybe difficult for the wife to move if needed)??

Leave the battery connected???

Any inputs will be great!

(At least I will not be putting miles on her while in the gulf/area)

Scott,

You mentioned your wife may be moving it, if she will be starting and driving it, the storage prep will be a little different than if it will be sitting. If it will be sitting without being touched:

- Fill the tank up completely
- Mix a fuel stabilizer in and run it long enough for the stabilizer to work through the entire fuel system
- Change the oil & filter after shutting it down for good
- Disconnect the battery, remove and set aside on a block of wood, keep on a trickle charger
- Remove the wheels/tires or set the car on jackstands with the tires above the floor (to prevent flat spots from forming)
- Wax it
- Install a soft, breathable cover on it

If your wife can start it and drive it a little once a month:

- Do the fuel stabilizer
- Change the oil
- Set up a trickle charger and show her how to work it
- Wax it
- Install the cover if she doesn't mind removing and installing it to drive the car
- Have her start it up and drive until it's fully warmed up once a month at least

Good luck on the mobilization!

I can't add to the advice on storage, but godspeed to you Scott. We appreciate everything you do for our country!! Hopefully, you'll be computer connected and can stay in touch with us here.

Scott, I edited my post as I forgot to mention that you want to fill the tank up completely before storage. This will keep the interior of the tank from rusting. Also, if it isn't going to be moved, pull the battery out and set it on a block of wood (setting a battery directly on concrete can cause it to slowly discharge) and put it on a trickle charger.

And ditto what Don said

Contrary to very popular myth, setting a battery on concrete will not cause it to discharge more rapidly.

DO NOT put the car on jack stands. My uncle made that mistake with his car and the springs streatched out the car has an extra 2 or 3 inches of ride hight. get some foam blocks and drive the car on them if your just gonna store it. Also have the oil and filter changed, get a battary tender, not a trickle charger. Most trickle chargers just keep charging so you will screw up your battery, a tender keeps it fully charged but will not over charge it, wash it, wax it, put the car cover on.

Thanks, I am thinking I will not lift it, in case my wife needs to move it, Plus I have a 2.5 year old who loves Daddies car. And she has
a tendency to touch and open doors, etc. Not to safe having it lifted in the garage with her running around.

thanks for the input,
