Default 5.0 stroker kit?

So I have been tossing around the idea of installing a stroker kit. I like the idea of having a 5.0 302, but not to mention more power. I see that Haney Motorsports sells a kit for a really good price, but what all do I need to consider to do this. Just trying to read into the "fine print" if you will. On the HMS site, it says you will need to have the crank balanced, so I know I will need to have that done. It also says that the pistons are a .020 overbore, so Ill need to have the block taken down and bored out to allow the pistons to fit. Its also an 8-bolt crank I believe so I know Ill need a new flywheel, but other than these parts...what else do I need to take into consideration? Im pretty new to the 3v motors, so any help would be great. Thanks!!

Heres the link if anyone was wondering:

Its obviously the 5.0L 3v kit that I am referring to. lol

Sorry for the nemb question but - would you make any additional power out of this? I'm guessing yes but I don't know anything about stroking a motor.

Well its not really easy...haha...it requires rebuilding the whole bottom disassembling and reassembling the whole bottom end of the engine. lol

You can buy a complete balanced assembly from Eagle Specialty, it's what i'm running, and the .20 overbore will give you your magical 302 but you can stay stock bore (still needs to be checked by a machine shop) or i'm running an .11 overbore, pistons are cheap its finding rings that can get expensive. To take advantage of it of course you need an exhaust, head work is recommended and cams are a big advantage

Saleen sells a stroker kit that is all stroke and no bore. It produces 400hp, but more importantly, the HP with their new crank has a ridiculous power band, to the point where the car is as fast as a 480 hp car with only 400hp. Proven at the track. The kit is very expensive though.

You gain more power out of a stroker engine because of the elongated stroke of the rod, thus its name. The long the stroke, the longer the rotation of the rod around the crank which in turn gives you more power. On my car, bone stock dyno was 263. Most i've ever seen out of basic bolt ons was around 315, and after I did all my basics, plus cams and head work, and my stroker kit, I was at 378 on a Mustang brand dyno which runs 10% lower hp #'s than most (they bought it to tune their 3000 hp+ alcohol funny car) so given that, I'm sitting at around 415 at the rear wheel. AT THE REAR WHEEL, my cams aren't fully advanced, and its a low compression motor, you can have huge gains with this, its just what you want to do.

xROB- Please feel free to give me a call. I am more than happy to go over the details of our rotating assembly and other components that are needed/recommended. We do have pistons available in STD. and .020 over.

Saleen's stroker uses the same manufacturer as we do for the cranks.....KPC. Saleen gets 302cid from using their 3.80" stroke with stock bore. Our 3.75" with stock bore is 298 ....301 with a .020

I do believe there is some clearancing neede for the 3.8 stroke. We prefer the 3.75 and our 6" rod for the best rod ratioin the stroker mod motors.

Casey
