Are the gears from Motive? Been hearing a lot about gear noise/whine from these. Must be a production problem.

RE: gear install nightmare!
lol hey thanks. haha I'm thinking about now after having the car roll off the lift and getting the back scratched up putting on the gt/cs rear as well and painting the whole bumper body color like i did with the front. gotta make lemonade out of lemons i guess[8D]

RE: gear install nightmare!
actually he has a lift in his garage at home and lowering it off the lift he forgot to put the e-brake on and as soon as the wheels touched the ground the car rolled back right into the front of his car in the driveway. actuallyi've got togive ford credit on that one. i jumped in between the two cars and was prepared to take the hit but then i jumped out of the way and when it hit his jeep the bumper went in about 8 inches and then popped right out leaving nothing but a scratch! and a SMALL crease on each side of the license plate about 1 inch long. i thought it was going to be way worst to be honest.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. So everytime you re-adjust the pinion it requires a new crush-sleeve... I've ALWAYS had to purchase an install kit with gear replacement. Never attempted that myself (along with LT headers) but have done everything else. I wouldn't trust some "buddy" for gear upgrade. Performance shop for that.
You should be able to get it to someone who knows what they're doing and they can correct. The FRPP gears are heat-treated and pre-conditioned so they should be able to fix them. You don't have THAT many miles on them yet.

from the reading on the dial indicator so you might only have to waste
one crush sleeve with a base set amount of pinion shims to get
the dial indicator reading as to what shims it really needs from the
Ford Pinion Shim chart in the workshop manual. I would not dare
work on any major assemblies of the S197 witout the workshop manual.
Not a Hayneeeiys or a Chilllllytons, mind you.
