Default Can a TPMS pierce through a tire?

Very stupid question, I know, but I noticed today when I was rotating my tires that one of the sensors in my car came loose (front right tire to be exact). Now I plan on getting this fixed ASAP but is there any chance in hell it can cause damage? The TPMS is such a pain in the *** that I just think I will do the PVC pipe thing and no worry about anything anymore.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I have yet to hear of anyone actually doing the pvc pipe thing. I think it's myth.

How could you tell that a sensor came loose just by rotating your tires? The sensor is strapped to the wheel inside the tire. I would think that if the sensor came loose it would throw the balance of that tire way off and since you say it is a front tire you would have felt it right away.
As far as the sensor in the pipe goes I have heard of someone doing it. I don't know if he was for real or not, but it does make sense as long as the sensor has a constant air pressure around it, it wouldn't know if it was in a tire or peice of pipe.

It's not a myth at all. Possibly a theory, but no myth. The TPMS is only reading pressure. It doesn't care where it's at while it's reading that pressure. So, if it's in a pressurized PVC pipe then it's happy.

I felt something loose in the tire....obviously it was the sensor.

The sensors go into sleep mode and are reactivated by the rotation of the wheel assembly.
I dont see this happening in a PVC tube in the trunk.
A loose TPMS sensor minus the cradle which would be still strapped
to the rim could damage the sensor. A loose sensor, cradle and strap
is even worse as it could chew up the inside of the tire pretty quick.

What I mean is that I think it is a myth that someone has actually done the pvc thing.....not that it COULD be done.

No myth...lots of guys already doing it. The spare seems smarter IMO though.

I would hate to be getting checked at the airport when the security guard finds your PVC "bomb". You may miss your flight...

The sensors probably do go into sleep mode but the thing that wakes them up is when you turn the key on and the system is energized. If it didn't the check light would stay on untill you started to move.
