Default Mustang + Depreciation

So, I am set on purchasing a used 2006+ Mustang GT. I wanted to ask what the difference in pricing would be from now until lets say mid october to mid november.

Basically my question is, should I wait and let the price drop a bit more before purchasing? I'm financially stable enough to take out a loan and purchase the vehicle since I need something new anyway.

Also, how much should I be paying for a 06 Mustang GT (5spd/leather/etc)? I've been seeing 2005/2006 listing for 20k+ and I think that's ridiculous since kbb.com is barely 18k for a 06. Oh and low mileage is a must.

Thanks

I gather that you must be young since you are asking about pricing with respect to used vehicles? Please ask for help from a parent or older relative. First, don't, do not, never ever, buy a vehicle based upon emotions. That is why you must bring a disinterested party with you. A young friend is not a good solution as they too will get emotional. You do not NEED the stang, you WANT it.

How much should you pay? The answer is as much or as little as you are willing. You are the buyer so you control that decision. If you get emotional and it MUST be an 06, MUST have leather blah blah, then you limit your selection and thus your negotiating power.

Check the classifieds on this site. You will see GTs with mods sitting for sale for months and months. They are overpriced. You will also see GTs listed for 18k or below and those are the ones that sell. We are into the 2009 model year so count from 2006, you have 2006, 2007, 2008 and now 2009 so an 06 is 4 model years old. Why would you even consider an 06 with an asking price over 20k unless it is lined with silver and gold?

With $4,000 in rebates from fomoco, new vehicles are low cost. You can get an 08 GT deluxe for a song (around $21k) and that's brand spankin new. Mustang sales are down year over year so buyers are in the drivers seat (no pun intended)

good luck

I paid $20,200 for an 06 GT 5sp M/T with 22k miles, shaker 1000, mycolor, leather. If you search kbb for dealer prices, they start around $23k. I'd say 18-20 depending on what package it has.

I don't subscribe to the Model Year BS. A 2006 Mustang is [dependant on month] two years old. Don't buy into the whole model year thing too deeply, it's a lame trick designed to boost car sales during a season when sales have shown to be weak.
It means NOTHING later in the cars life.
People rarely [if ever] ask what the model year is when buying a car, they ask when the car was built and how many miles it has on it because these are the important points. These are the two things you need to concentrate on too.

Good luck

Personally; I picked up my '07 w/ 10K on it for 21K. GT Coupe, Premium, Shaker, Leather etc.

If you are going '06, go '07. You can finance an '07 as a new car and get a much better interest rate assuming you are financing.

I don't know where you are located but around here you can get into an '07 GT w/ low miles in the 18-22K range w/o too much hassle. If you check the dealer they are asking 25k but they'll go lower...

Edit: I recommend checking out Carmax too; for around 1K more you can extend the factory warranty 60K/5years. I think the dealer would charge close to the same if they will let you extend it.

Gas is on the drop a bit; but people are practically giving away V8's mine was about 5k under book when I bought it and I got a 100K mile powertrain.

I got mine at 60 months with 4.4%. Plus the dealership that sold me mine doesn't negotiate, they have the price on the window, and no additional fee's. The workers don't work on commission, so you pretty much get the lowest price on the car. Only place I'll ever buy a car from again.

I completely agree with TORQUE...whenever you are ready to buy the car bring someone who really hates Mustangs (they will keep you grounded). I did, I brought my dad. Feel free to walk away at anytime. When I bought my car last month, I recieved 4 calls from the dealership to come back, on the fourth visit I finally bought the car at my price. 2007 vert with 14K miles for $16k. The origainal asking price was $19.5

Carmax is a nationwide barometer on pricing. Their prices are generally a great deal at a normal dealer...they deal in volume to say the least.

A quick query shoes they have LOTS of 05-06 GT's with leather for $17.5K-19K...all with various options...but most loaded.

Yep. I'm a bit young, but a kid though. Just started my career recently, so I'm looking to purchase a reliable vehicle for work and play.
