dropping into low gear at high RPM

dropping into low gear at high RPM
Hey i wanted to know if this/how bad this is for your car. I love to drop it into 1st gear when going 30 and drop it into 2nd going 60. How bad is it? What will it hurt.

I'd NEVER downshift like that into 1st...could easily tear up your tranny...and plus it's sooooo hard on your engine/drivetrain in 1st gear. I think personally that at 80 if you hit 3rd you are perfect...and have yet to try dropping from 60 mph to 2nd and nailin it...

yep. i just stick to good old 2nd. then come to a stop, then throw it into first and start all over again. i love that my 2nd goes to 77, downshifting from 3rd to 2nd on the freeway is somewhat good fun, but 3rd gear still pulls strong for it being stock. that'll be changed soon as i get the tune and cai.
I rarely get to 60 in 2nd with 4.10s!

lol, the 331 or 355s that i have kick hard enough. if anything i'll probably get the 373s. i know this will become a heated debate over gears, so i'll respect everyone's opinions, but this is my car and i don't want to tear at it so much. it's my first mustang, and i don't want it bailing out on me too soon. december will mark my 1 year!

Never downshift into first, never unless at a complete stop....or a bit rolling...
2nd is game depending on your gears...60 is a good 2nd slam for me (3:55)
just varies depending on your pinon ratio....our cars are built to handle this action...hell the transmission is out of a truck!
