I plan on driving my GT this winter. Here is my info for anyone who can benefit.

I got a set of stock wheels/tires from an '07 GT for $400 off Craigslist. The tires only have $20k on them, aren't winters, but can probably be sold to take some money off. The stock wheels still have the straps and cradles for the TPMS sensors installed. I got a set of 4 TPMS sensors on Fleabay for $60 shipped. Seemed pretty cheap, maybe they won't work, but worth a chance for the $$.

I'm going to get a set of 4 Snow Tires. Prices quote vary wildly. Tire rack's highest rated snow tire is the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D, number 2 is the Dunlop Winter Sport M3. Those run about $170/tire without mounting/balancing/etc...

Calling local shops, I've gotten answers on "the best" tires being BF Goodrich Winter Force which I can get as low as $109 mounted/balanced, to Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 studded for $238/ea mounted and balanced. They guy recommending the Nokian really sold me on doing that and studs (legal around here during winter months) to get the 'stang through winter.

The shops selling the Winter Force, seemed to be pushing what they "had in stock", not answering my question which was "what is the baddest M-F'ing snow tire out there and then give me a quote?". Note I didn't ask what they had in stock...

Blizzaks were the most expensive which I was quoted at $262/ea. I didn't get the same answer twice, except from the shops who don't sell Nokian who basically said, "yeah, that's a good tire, can't say anything bad about them...".

I did research tire/wheel packages from Tire Rack, and without TPMS sensors, you can do a set for probably $1200/1300 mounted, balanced and shipped ready to go. I'll be in the same ballpark by the time I'm done.

The Pirelli P-Zero's are all-season tires, but that doesn't mean they are well suited for snow. I bought a set of take-off Bullitts and mounted 235/55R17 Pirelli 210 SottoZero tires. These are called "Performance Winter" tires, and for good reason. I've had them through two winters now. They wear very well, and cut through the snow with sure-footed ease.

you won't put a snow plow on it, but they are drivable. My new edge however was impossible. Got stuck in an inch of snow once

I had a 1999 GT I used for a winter season, up here in Toronto. I had a set of snows and some weight in tha back. It was awesome!! I drove through a blizzard at 4am in the morning for 20 miles with no plows in sight and I made it!!! This winter coming up will be my first with the 05 GT. So we'll see.....

The weight will help since it will increase traction, but too much weight is dangerous.
