Engine Problems
Pretty much every other time I drive my car the failsafe engine mode turns on. I heard today that it's because of a major malfunction with the car and instead of turning off it allows you to finish the drive to a dealership. Is this true? Could it maybe be because the guy who had the car before might have had it chipped and it isn't working with my mods? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

yes, that's true

yes, this is also a possibility. if it were my car, i would
order a SCT Xcal2 tuner, with a custom tune written for
the mods on the car.
this way, at least you know the tune is right and if engine
failsafe persists, you can start looking elsewhere for the
culprit.

WELL IN MY CASE I HAD THE FAILSAFEENGINEMODE ON SO BAD THAT I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR HOME IN A TOW TRUCK THE CAR STARTED AND 3 SECONDS LATER IT TURNED OFF BECAUSE OF THE FAILBLAHBLAHBLAH. SO I PLUGED IN MY SCT & THE CAR STARTED TROWING LIKE 4 TO FIVE CODES. NON RELATED TO ANYTHING SOME OF THEM WHERE THAT THE FAIL SAFE ENGINE MODE CAUSED IT SELF TO PROTECT THE CAR BUT IN CONCLUSION AFTER 2 DAYS LOOKING TO WHAT IT WAS A FRIEND OF MINE LENDED ME HIS TROTTLEBODY AND VOALA. IT STARTED WORKING FINE. LONG STORY SHORT THE CAR TREW LIKE 5 CODES NON RELATED TO THE PROBLEM THE CAR HAD. IT HAD A BAD TPS, WENT TO THE LOCAL FORD PARTS STORE AND PICKED UP A NEW TPS. CAR IS NOW PERFECT AGAIN. YOU SHUOLD CHECK IN TO THAT.
first off make sure your MAF sensor is plugged in correctly. if the system does not read a single it puts into sage mode. also safe mode is made so you can get to the side of the road with minimal damage and only allows second gear in autos and only 15 t 20 mph. keeps revs low to. but if you do have a problem dont run to long on safe mode also if a tune was left in your cars pcm you will need the unit that was used for example a sct tuner, it holds the stock setting and can only be used with the car that its has the stock setting for. if your car has a tune and you dont have the tuner you can not upload a new program you will need to get a whole new pcm. good luck
if he bought a brand new xcal and went
to upload a custom tune, wouldn't the
xcal just save the current tune as the
stock tune?
i could be wrong, but that's how i always
thought it would play out, in that situation
