Default Winter storage

Well fall is here, my 06 GT will soon be in the garage until spring (only sees rain and snow if it looks out the window). The past 2 years I always start it and bring it to temp. once a week. I am running Amsoil 0-20w with an Amsoil filter. Of course there is a bit of lag until the oil pressure comes up. I am wondering if once a week is too long between starts? Is enough oil retained at the friction points until the pressure comes up? (The garage rarely gets below 40 degrees).

From what I understand you should not start it at all.
and why are you using 0-20w?

Amsoil 0-20w replaces the 5-20w.

good to see that you are storing the car instead of abusing it in the snow. starting it once a week should cause no problems.

The point of starting it is to make sure all the stuff thats needs some kind of lubrecation gets it, and to avoid rust on places where moisture will get to. In a heated garage you dont have to be afraid of moisture of course. But it still would be good to get all the fluids running in the car to get everything lubed.

Run the car for at least 15 min, I did it once a month in a heated garage.
I would have done it 2 times a week if the garage get cold and damp.

This is what I think is the right thing to do, but I am sure someone else will tell you otherwise.

Good luck

I am a lifelong Idaho boy. I have 2 4x4 pickups to take on the North Idaho winter combat driving competition! Will NEVER give the winter crazies a shot at my GT!

The garage does get damp from my wife's vehicle dripping off.

TY everyone for your opinions!

+1

The Amsoil ASM 0W-20 is their recommended replacement for the 5W-20. I've been running it the past 22k miles.

As far as storage, fresh oil, trickle charger on the battery, carpet or cardboard under the tires to keep the rubber off the concrete... I wouldn't bother starting it every month unless you intend to take it out and run it a good 20 miles or so. Letting it run in the garage will only increase moisture buildup in the crankcase and exhaust and cause more harm than good unless you give it time to really heat up and burn-off moisture. Most people don't.

Winter storage makes me sad The good thing about storing my car this winter is that I will have a garage instead of storing the car outside under a car cover and a tarp. I do not know how many times last winter I uncovered the car just to look at it or sit in it for a few minutes. Either way....like Nuke said oil, trickle charger, and stuff under your tires will work fine.

+ 1 on the winter storage feeling. That is why I do enjoy the weeky start up! Car polished, engine running, tunes cranked, far away look...my wife has found me like that more then once LMAO. The car has no problem getting warmed up.

This is making me sad. I've lived in Hawaii where there is no winter storage, but now that I'm in DC I think I'll have to put it away for a few months when there is snow on the ground.
