Angry Brake Problems, Help Please!

I've been having brake problems for some time now. The guy who I bought my car off of back in May put new brake pads on right before he sold it to me. About a month ago the brakes started making noise, not squealing but more of a grinding noise. This was after only a couple of months, and I'm easy on the brakes! Adding to this, once I got my car back from getting the gears done there was this high pitched squeaking noise that drove me crazy! It would do this at all speeds but would go away when I applied the brakes. I finally had enough and bought brand new d/s rotors and ceramic powerstop brake pads. These were installed on the 13th.

Last Wednesday, less than a week later, I had the window down and the radio off and I noticed the brakes were squealing! With ceramic pads! Now the high pitched squeaking noise has returned as well and the squealing has worsened considerably in the last week. I noticed today a grinding noise coming from the brakes - they just make all sorts of noise, it sounds TERRIBLE! This is extremely frustrating for me as I finally get rid of these brake noises only for them to return worse than ever. This is with all brand new parts! Hundreds of dollars later I'm still dealing with this crap. Can anybody please offer any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Are you sure the sound is coming from the same axle that you replaced the pads on?

Best think is to check all FOUR wheels. Remove the wheels and inspect the brakes.

Could be a caliper sticking. Did you clean the bakes with brake cleaning fuild? Also regrease the pins for the pads? The ones that the pads move back and forth on. You need to remove the long screw/bolt. Hayness (sp) has a repair manual for the Mustang that explains this is detail with pics. Less then $20. Good money spend.

The grinding is coming from the rear, the squealing and squeaking I cannot pinpoint. All 4 rotors and pads were replaced.

Disc brake squeal is usually caused by the pad vibrating in the caliper. Usually the outside pad.

Remove the pad, and clean both surfaces well with a wire brush and some brake cleaner.

Apply Permatex Disc Brake Anti-Squeal to the pad-caliper contact area. You don't need much. It comes in a little packet, and I usually use 1 packet for all 4 calipers.

Let it sit overnight for the goo to dry.

That usually takes care of it.

Some grinding and rubbing noise is very normal. The pads are in constant slight contact with the rotors. If you listen for it, you can hear it. Especially if you'rte driving near a brick wall or tall curb.

a couple of questions:

What year is your car?
Why was the guy selling it?
What made him put on new brakes?

My car is an 05' w/ 56k. I drive it daily and sometimes hard. I still have the factory brakes on my car.

You may want to check every part carefully and do a history on the car in the event it could have been in an accident.

By the way, nice looking ride.
Good luck.

Are you saying you STILL have the original brake pads, on all four wheels, after 56,000 miles???? You must take very long drives without braking.

LOL! Every one of my 6 Toyotas never saw new brake pads before 100,000 - 150,000 miles. Based on what you guys are saying, I'd better be prepared to replace my Stangs brakes "early". Gotta love domestic...

i would say the "squeaking" is coming from where the rear pads are held in by the calipers. sort of where the two ends of the pads fit in. it started to happened to my car a few years ago, i put a little dab of high temp grease in those spots on both of the rears and the squeaking went away.... for a few months, then it started to come back. ive just dealt with it since then. pretty sure the "squealing" is coming from the pads and rotors.
