FYI, 5 liters of oil is WAY too much, lol. On the other hand, if you meant 5 quarts (i know you did, just messin with ya) then you need to add more oil. The 3V 4.6 liter takes 6 quarts.

I know this an old thread but I need help, I know you got your adapter to work. Do you have a front sway bar? I installed mine and the filter hits the sway bar, had to mod the filter which cannot be good. Im afraid its gonna explode sooner or later. Help! Its on a 2006 GT

getting it on is 1,000,000x easier than getting it off

before people start ragging on me , i used to use FRAM filters and they were a HUGE PITA to get off because it hits the sway bar

i found using OEM motorcraft easier (maybe it is a tad bit shorter ? )

how are you modding a filter ?

I took two wooden blocks and sandwiched it in a vise and got the round end to be flat. Way easier to install after that, doesn't seem to have crushed any of the filtering element, however I'm worried about the case of the filter being compromised and bursting @ WOT. I know it sounds crazy, I am not excited about it being that way but I had to get the adapter on. I think I am going to purchase the OEM motorcraft and see if it is shorter.

Update, found an STP filter that is an inch shorter than stock. Have you ever used one before? Any opinion about them?

ive never seen STP filters sold in any stores, but if it is shorter it will make life easier

also...i ditched that glow shift o ring last year and made a more permanent / thicker gasket using RTV gasket maker

trust that way more than the o ring

Looking at doing this, so I'm bringing this post back from the dead!

So you removed the oring and just used rtv sealant? Why don't use both?

As far as the filter hitting the sway bar, is that only when trying to install it? I have no problem dropping my sway bar to change my oil filter.

I had the adaptor sitting uninstalled after the leak and when i went to re-install it im pretty sure i threw out the o-ring in anger. RTV sealant was what I had and works quite well.

As for dropping the sway bar, it never occurred to me...is it hard ?

I put about 4000 km a year on my car ( garage queen ) and change the oil once a year right before storing it so fighting with it for 15 minutes is some what bearable
