Default vinyl stripe question.

So my mineral gray is looking a bit plain. Was thinking of some silver stripes.. I can't afford painted stripes which would look the best obviously. I'm guessing that costs around $1000?
So vinyl was the next best thing..

I have a hood scoop on my car, I wanted the gt500 stripes how would that work?
And with it being vinyl would the stripes look just dull... and not shine with the rest of the car?

Well if you want vinyl and want the scoop striped right, it'll have to be removed and done separately and then re-attached to the hood. Also make sure the entire hood gets striped and just make holes in the vinyl where the hood scoop gets attached to the hood. Defnitely stripe the scoop, though. It'll look lame if you leave it bare. That's how it was done in my case, and I have the GT scoop and GT500 style stripes.

Here's a few pics of my car... I wouldn't say the stripes look dull. Their shine is about that of the rest of the car.

That being said, I have heard that silver stripes done in vinyl tend to get a bit blotchy looking over time. I don't know how true that is, but I assume that any poor quality vinyl will wear out quicker than a higher grade. Definitely get the highest grade possible. Mine were done by a graphics shop that specializes in vinyl graphics for commercial vehicles and buildings. I saw their work before they did my car, and I know that it's quality vinyl. So if you can have some pros do the install and make sure you know their previous work and that they're reliable. When it comes to vinyl stripes, a job that's superbly done should look just like paint.

Oh, and be sure to clean them with nothing other than microfiber... for both washing and drying. Anything else can scratch them, especially if there's dirt on them.

Victoria you did a really awesome job striping your car. Did you take off the washer nozzles as well?

Thank you. The guys that striped it took the nozzles off, yes. They said it was the easiest thing in the world to do, but the scoop was a pain to stripe. I think they removed it a total of like three times or so before they got it right. It was actually their very first Mustang, but I think they did a hell of a job. I love it, but I must admit I'm kinda leaning now more toward a Boss 302 look with a single hood stripe and a rear blackout. It's just an idea, though. I'm not sure if I'll actually do it or not.

$250. Only because it was their first Mustang. I think you can generally expect to pay closer to $600 if you have professionals do it. I know the guys that did mine said it was more like an $800 job with all the labor that went into it. If you do it yourself obviously you just need to pay for the stripes, but I wouldn't recommend it.

If it costs that much to install vinyl stripes then I think it would be best to just save up for painted stripes. They'll look better (shinier) and last longer.

I may do stripes at some point. If I do they'll be painted for sure.

I like the way these were done (painted): http://www.allfordmustangs.com/photo...hp/photo/77514

If/when I do mine, it'll be done just like in the above picture.

Notice how the black is shiny.

VictoriaRR, that's the nicest vinyl stripe job i ever seen. IMO do stripe the hood scoop. Some people don't and it has a slight 'junk-yard part' type look to it.

If you can afford it then painted is definitely the way to go. When I looked into it was pretty pricy, though. The best estimate I got was $1,200. That was way more than I could afford. Plus, I have a habit of changing my mind frequently. As it stood, I couldn't decide whether I wanted black or silver stripes. So going vinyl would be more forgiving should I decide to go with silver down the road. But if you're sure about the type of stripes you want and you can afford to do painted I'd definitely say painted is the way to go. You don't have to worry about the rigorous maintenance.

Thanks, ReaperGT. Your car looks great. I think I'm wanting to go more along the lines of the Saleen Parnelli Jones look, with the side stripes not extending to the hood of the car as your's are. But definitely in matte black. I've seen a very similar look on a Tungsten Mustang and it looked gorgeous.

Yeah, I agree. If you don't stripe the scoop it looks like you did the stripes and then added the scoop later, as if it was an afterthought. I think it's better to integrate it into the car.
