up front expense could be a reason (i'm planning on getting one at a time for that reason), warranty issues could be a factor too (even though you can reflash the memory)

Warranty shouldn't be an issue this mod can be changed back and no trace of it left in about 10 mins.

I wish people would research the warranty issue and get their facts straight. If you don't drive off the dealers lot and go right to a tune you're cheating yourself.

CAI alone net's you 5-10 (if you're lucky) RWHP. CAI & tune combo nets you 15-30 RWHP. If you're looking to do just one piece of the combo, do the tune first and get the CAI later with revised tunes. The tune is the meat of the package.

I've got an S&B for sale in the classified section. Works without a tune and then just gets better with it. Had to go to a bigger unit because of my cams.

I would agree with this. I emailed the guys at Brenspeed because I was thinking about the C&L with the no tune option first untill I could get the money for the tuner. They replied and said their tune with the stock air box would make more hp than the C&L alone, and the tuner first would be the way to go.
