Default Some Advice Please - Code

Hey guys.

Car threw a code yesterday - two actually. P0171 and P0174

They both state the car had a lean condition. One code is bank 1 the other is bank 2.

Guy at Autozone said that they are "soft" codes. Only a one time occurrence. Will not be a "hard" code unless there is a reoccurrence.

Car is Dyno tuned for 93 octane. No issues with tune over the past 8 months.

Last week I ran 89 due to no stock of 93 and then over the weekend I was out taking care of some business and ran low on fuel pulled into the station and they were out of 89 and 93 so I put 4 gallons of 87 into the car.

I think this is why it threw the code.

P.S. With 93 back in the car it seems to be running better than ever..... light still on

Questions:

Autozone guy said he could clear the codes....will that mess withthe tune?

Lower octane would make it run lean right?

Will my handheld show the A/F? Or do I need to find a shop and have it dyno'ed?

Should I just unhook the battery?

Advice will be much appreciated!!!!

you don't need to have it dyno'ed your diablo sport can read those codes not sure if it can clear them run it really low then fill it all the way up with 93 and reset the battery for about 20 mins if you can
carry a gas can or find out who carrys 93 so it doesn't happen again.

Here is a kicker.

I just went out and actually lifted the hood and looked. You can tell I have to pay to have all my work done. The C&L Intake had come loose from the MAF (is that what that is). Theres was a 1" to 2" gap letting air in/out. I slid it back in and screwed the two clamps down and all seems back in order.

Should I wait to have the code reset a day or two to let it get a new read?

That would give you your lean condition, that's for sure. Just use your handheld and clear the codes yourself since now you know the cause. Why didn't you just read the codes yourself instead of going to Autozone?????

that happened with my JLT a while back too... better keep checking it cause mine used to keep sliding out little by little.. i ended up selling it and got another one. if i were you i'd try grinding or sanding the half circle in the heat shield where it sits so it will be about a half in or so lower. that way the hood doesn't come down on it and cause it to come out again...

I have never even seen or held the tuner. I bought it from the shop they tuned the car and put it in the trunk. I put it (in the box) in my closet and haven't seen or looked at it since.

It can read codes....cool! It can clear them also? I'll have to read up on how to do that. Thanks guys!

yeah. you should really carry your tuner around too. comes in handy in times like that when your car throws a code. you can clear them, change tunes, and modify them if you change tire sizes etc...
