Default Getting my first car....Mustang...this summer

Hey everyone whats up....I'm new as you can see

I'm getting a V6 Mustang as my first car next summer, cant wait, but I have a couple of questions.

I'm definitely getting a used one, and I can't afford a GT. I did a few searches online and came up with an estimate around $12,000 to $14,000 for an 06-07 v6, doesn't have to be in immaculate condition but at least decent. Is this realistic? I know it depends on the car, etc. but can you usually negotiate the price down from there?

Also, I've been working for a while and saving up for years now and I have enough for a couple of decent mods once I get the car and get a feel for it...
Any suggestions? I'm new to all this and I have no idea where to start as far as performance. Of course I'm getting sequentials, and I'm hoping for new wheels but I don't want the car to be all show and no go....any decent performance upgrades anyone has in mind?

Cant wait, only a few more months

Thanks guys

welcome to mf and the s197 section. I've actually seen used v6s for as low as $10k so i think your price range is very doable. should be able to find one with decent mileage too

Welcome to MF and and world of Mustangs. My first car was a Camaro. Sports cars are fun in high school. Have fun! I agree, I think that price range is very do-able.

I really want a GT, but I have to go to college too hah
Everyone around here seems to be asking for at least $16,000 for a GT and I really can't do that, as much as I want to. It's weird because I live in queens which is packed full of cars and the dealers selling used ones people don't want anymore.

I've never bought a car before....is it possible to get the price down from what they're asking usually?

I think I'm settled on the V6. Don't want too much power on my first car, and I think the V6 is more than enough. Could always get a supercharger later on, too. Plus more money to tune it and make it look nice. Win win situation to me (I hope).

Brano mentioned the CAI and tune, and dual exhaust. The cold air would definitely be my first purchase for the car, is the Steeda kit a good one?
And as far as tunes go do I have to buy one of those Diablo tuners, or can I just go somewhere and get the car tuned?

I know I got a lot of questions, thanks for your time guys

Yeah a GT would definately be do-able. and ALWAYS NEGOTIATE your price down! Don't pay full price for anything.

Here's a black GT with 23k miles for $15,500 in NY.

Silver GT with 35k miles for only $14,995 in NY.

Heck, here's a Saleen (clone, I'm sure) for 16,800.

There are tons of them for even in the 15's. Therefore, you should get a GT instead!
Hope that made your day.

Congrats, man. I got my beautiful black '09 Pony Package as my first car (for which I regard myself as extremely blessed) on September 6th, and god, I love her. Good luck with the hunt!

Congrats for sure.. I suggest if you can go ahead and get a GT.. you won't be dissatisfied.. I'v had the 4banger fox body, v6 new edge, and the s197 is my first V8.. I wouldn't have anything less than a V8 now.. Truck or car for that matter, unless its something to drive to work.. When you get ready look around, i'm sure you'll be able to find a GT in your pricerange.. The prices are falling everyday.. Just take your time and find the one that fits YOU.. Be it V6 or V8..

You should be able to get a GT used for around 14K, especially come next summer. Once you get your car you'll probably want to throw a few mods on there (as you eluded to in your post), but it would cost a decent amount of money to match the GT performance wise. You dont want to get the 6 and look back and regret it! Get the GT, go for it!
