Actually, you probably lose about .5 miles per gallon. Woopy-Do. If anyone is actually worried about losing 1/2 mile per gallon, buy a prius. Using the 10% ethanol produced here in the states allows us to decrease our quantity of foreign oil purchased.

As I stated, it would be less than 1mpg, if that. I get some of the best gas mileage on this board, and any board I visit, and the gas I run has 10% ethanol. I get around 22-24 city (35mph), 26-28 interstate (75mph) and 32-34 highway (50-55mph). Trust me. There is no discernible difference.

We have had this for years up here in the People's Republic of Canada. My car actually runs better on Canadian gas than the crap I buy in Detroit, but it's MUCH cheaper in Detroit.

You say that, but studies show that it takes more energy to create ethanol than you can get back out of it. It takes approx. 1.29 gallons of gasoline to create enough ethanol to replace 1 gallon of gasoline (according to David Pimental - Cornell University). Granted, this particular number is one calculation. But this is generally accepted.

True, I guess we aren't really cutting our foreign oil consumption. But it's not the direct process of creating ethanol that uses so much gasoline, its the transportation of the raw materials and waste that uses all the gas. Eventually oil wont be an option, so its imperative we start trying things now before we got caught with our pants down. Is ethanol the answer? Prob not, but at least it shows our willingness to give something else a shot.

Henry Ford thought ethanol was the fuel of the future.

I think Alaskan oil should be in our future.

Electricity is (maybe) the fuel of the future.
