Default Footwell Wiring

Anyone know the simplest way to access a 12 volt line to power some footwell LED's? My goal is to have the footwells illuminate when the interior courtesy lights come on such as opening a door or hitting the unlock button on the remote. I'm looking for the least amount of dismantling possible. Maybe there's a wire behind the headlight and dimmer switch that would work but if so, how do you remove that face plate?

Thanks

Face plate for the dash or the headlight? The dash comes apart very easy. Wires can be ran directly through the driver side fender or through a wire port that looks like a small circular rubber under the dash.

I would find the wire that turns on the interior lights through opening the door. Splice into that wire as your switch and go from there.

The power you need to work EXACTLY like you are asking is easy to get to. Remove the console and find the plug that powers the lights for the shifter on an automatic. Even if you have a manual the empty plug will be there. Using a meter find the line that shows a voltage drop when you dim the dash lights. If memory serves me correct it has a pink stripe but it's been a while since I did it so I'm not positive. Just use the meter and you can't go wrong.

Tap into that line and now you will power the footwell lights when you hit the unlock on the remote and also when you have your lights on. It will also dim with the dash lights. Add a simple in-line on/off switch under the dash in case you ever want to turn them off while you're driving at night.

Even eaiser, pop out the headlight switch unit (flat blade between dash and switch unit pops it right out) Damn, as I was typing , forgot the color of the wire. Anyway, tap into "that" wire, then footwells work just like dome, dash lights. I think this is what you want.
