It doesn't go through the firewall, it goes through that small opening between the left and the right in the middle console area... if you feel your hand up you can run the wire through there easy... The kit is set at the price it is because he gives you detailed instructions with hi quality pictures, everything is COLOR CODED so you know what wires to hook up where, everything has easy wire taps on them and it's all pretty much plug n play, if you know how to match colors you can do this in no more than an hour, probably more like 30 minutes... The strips he sends you are LED's and look very nice, a smooth bright glow and if you mount them right you don't even see the source of light, very clean IMHO. He sells footwell and trunk kits, and is working on an engine kit, high quality and I highly recommend the kits. If you think you can do it easier, do so, but I think his prices are fair considering the amount of work he puts into EACH kit.

Do you actually have to splice into any wires for this? Would anyone be able to post a write-up install or a scan / attachment of the installation instructions? I'm very interested in the product, but I'd like to see the actual installation first...

you do tap into a wire or two, everything is included in the kit to do the job. all the electrical connections etc are in the kit

I don't have kids, but that is one of my pet peeves. Is there anybody in the aftermarket who sells either a dome light or a set of lights you can jump off the stock POS? I haven't read through all the posts yet in case there is.

I would think you could install some UltraBright white LEDs
in the seat belt anchor point covers on each side and they
would be virtually undetectable until they illuminate.
Nite Ize sells a replacement LED assembly for the MiniMag
flashlights at Wal-Mart and it incorporates 3 Hi-Output
White LEDs in a small package
that would fit neatly into
a drilled hole in the seatbelt anchor covers. They throw a directed
pattern of illumination that would illuminate the rear seat area.
Connection would be a simple ground and the current illumination
wire in the center overhead console. The LEDs are guaranteed
for 10,000 hours of flashlight use and would provide a lifetime
of interior illumination. You would have to take the 13.8V down
to 3V but thats as easy as a LM7805 and a dropping resistor.

Or how bout a couple of these?
Or Hella LED Headlamps?

I'm going to do mine this way. Even though this is for the door sils, it uses the map/overhead light. I was going to use the shifter light wire as Cave suggested...only problem with that is that when your head lights are on so are the footwell lights. Unless you splice in a on/off switch. Actually, I may try the shifter light way initially and see if it bothers me with the footwell lights on while driving...may just have to dim them a bit.

So by tap into you mean cutting into a factory wire and splicing into it?
