Default Vin number last 3 digits

Is it the last three numbers or four in your vin that represent the production number?

IDENTIFICATION CODES

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a seventeen-digit alphanumeric code. The VIN is stamped on a metal tab riveted to the instrument panel, top upper left of the dash. The VIN number is also found on the Vehicle Certification (VC) label.

yes the last six digits are the production number but they are not that easy. A few numbers wouldnt be part of the actual production number.

Mine for instance 224113. There were not that many mustangs made total for 2005 so that cant be the actual production number. It might be 24113, which is realistic since i bought my GT in early 05 but i cant say for sure.

The Saleen production number (found on the bumper typically) will be different than the last 3 digits on a VIN.

My guess would be those 6 digits could be overall production value (ie all models that year), but it's a guess.

Since there have been over 100,000 mustangs made each year, all 6 numbers are required to keep track of it. Where Ford decided to start the VIN #, is up to them. Its up to the manufacturers to determine the what, where, and how they do the numbering.

The Saleen number on the bumper is for Saleen and Saleen only. Nothing to do with the vehicle VIN.

Correct. The last 6 numbers are somewhat representative of where Ford is in their production line, based on the number they started production at. Just like when you go to a bank and start a checking account, you can start at 22,000 if you want to.

There are some manufactures that will start at zero, but not many
