Default First Ever Oil Change HELP Needed!

I am at 10k miles got the car used at 7.2k I am thinking it is time for an oil change. So to keep it simple WHAT THE F*** do I do? I am pretty clueless about it but, I hear you don't want to go to Jiffy-Lube, EZ-Lube, etc... So what do i do what is best for my car do I want to use full synthetic? What is the difference between synthetic and not? What is the best brand? See I am clueless someone please take 5 minutes to shed some light for me please I would really apprciate it. Also if it depends how the car is driven it is my DD but i do have a good time with it usually don't go under 40 MPH unless I am near a school or approaching a stop light. The car is also and Automatic if you need any other info to help me I will be watching. Thanks for the help EVERYONE!

Buy six quarts of Mobil 1 5W-20 from wal-mart. They carry a 5 quart jug and you'll need an extra single quart. Get the Motorocraft OEM filter. You can also get that at Wal Mart. I believe it is labeled FL-820S or something along those lines. You can use their little computer to make sure you get the right one.

If you aren't sure exactly how to do the oil change itself you'll need jacks and a 13mm socket I believe. There is a how-to in the stickies somewhere. Look it up.

Everyone has their own suggestion as far as oil and filter goes. Just stay away from Fram from what I have heard. Motorcraft oil is fine if you don't want to use Mobil 1.

Mobil1 is an excellent choice and is full synthetic. Our Stangs come from the factory with synthetic blend which is fine but, for the money, Mobil1 is a very good choice. You'll also find quite a few forum members (myself included) that goes 8,000 - 10,000 miles between oil changes with full synthetic.

Invest in a good set of ramps (Rhino Ramps are about $50 at Autozone and other places) to use for oil changes and any other under-the-car work or inspections. Also, a filter wrench is needed plus a 13mm or 14mm socket and drain pan. As Riptide mentioned, 6 quarts plus a good filter (the Motorcraft for our engines is a fine choice).

Here is the link to the "How-To" sticky. At the time I edited this, the links aren't currently working due to forum software changes:

It's good to work on your own car. You'll become familiar with other things that, when detected early enough, can prevent more catastrophic failure or damage.

A matter of personal taste, environmental conditions and/or driving habits. I used to run nothing but Mobil1 in my 05GT, but about a year ago figured there wasn't any point since I don't live in an extreme climate, don't race it, and don't do 90% city driving - all of which can be detrimental to the health of your oil. I switched to Motorcraft semi-synthetic 5W20 (with the Motorcraft FL820S filter) and haven't had any issues. Of course there are the zealots who will cry "the horror!" and damn me to hell for using anything but a synthetic in the Mustang, but oh well - my car, my choice. I also SeaFoam it prior to every oil change and the engine hasn't blown up yet.

IMO, I don't care what oil people use... dino, blend or full syn... in their Stangs, just as long as they use a quality oil and filter and adjust their change frequencies accordingly. MY opinion: dino at 3,000 miles, blend at 5-6,000 miles, full syn at 8-10,000 miles. But don't mind me. I only have over 1 million miles on cars that I've owned and maintained over the past 37 years. And I rarely part with a vehicle before 200,000 miles.
