4.10s on 4.0L
I'm going to be getting FRPP 4.10s for my 4.0L but I heard that the 7.5 rearend is too weak for it. Is there anywhere that has cheap shipping for a 8.8 rear? Or should I go to the salvage yard and find one there?

You could try here:

The price always seem pretty good to me....

The way to go is to get the 8.8 axle from newtakeoff with the 4.10 gearing... this way you end up with a beefier rear end that will handle any future power additions you may make AND you get t-loc AND you avoid the possibility of the dreaded WHINE of improperly installed gears! Not to mention the whining you'll do if that happens LOL!
OH... don't forget to CALL newtakeoff & ASK them for the lowest possible price! I got them to drop over $200!

This is good advise (iROK24/7) if you can afford the difference in price.
If you have a good installer, and you don't plan on going to the track with forced induction and slicks.. the 7.5 is more than adequate. Make sure you do have a t-loc installed... you will not be able to enjoy those new gears if you can't get traction.
Bottom line:
7.5 is adequate.
8.8 is sturdier, and is a good idea for a track car.
If you can afford it.. there is nothing wrong with over-building (8.8), but it's not necessary.

It'd be a great upgrade to go with an 8.8 IMO...It'll probably cost the same with parts and labor and such to get the 4.10s installed on the 7.5 so why not just lose it all together and get the new rearend PLUS the new gears already installed? Thats what I would do if I had the cash right now =( LOL
