IMO, if you're not having problems with the battery AND you're not storing the car beyond 6-8 weeks I wouldn't bother with a tender. Those of you worried about leaving the battery for a few weeks have other problems that you need to investigate, otherwise your battery will leave you high-n-dry at some point in time dsespite the tender.

My issue is I just dropped $180 on a Red Top Optima and don't want that expensive battery to die. I only get to drive the car maybe 2-3 times per month.

By the way, is there anyway to turn off the red security light that is flashing in the dash?
That thing has to be pulling at least a little power....

I do believe 80% of 2005+ Mustang owners will admit that they have or have had issues with weak or dead batteries. I had Ford check it out and they told me that there is a TSB on it but Ford recommends you drive the car everyday. I don't drive my car every day but it doesn't sit for 6-8 weeks either. I only started having problems recently with letting it sit for more than 3 days.
The tech at Ford suggested a battery trickle or tender. As far as investigating, it seems the drain on the battery is due to the computers in our cars where it saves memory.

I understand that and stated that IF you're not having problems... I agree that there are a lot of forum members having battery issues but just suggest that those that AREN'T having the problem not knee-jerk react and put a tender on. A healthy battery SHOULD be able to sit for 2-3 months easy, even with the minimal drain from the computer and security system. It certainly wouldn't hurt to use one, just not necessary for the guy that posted his car sits for 2-3 weeks and he wanted a tender.

Ken, that's a nice one and I especially like the fact it is approved for out door use. As I said above, my car has to sit outside for now.

What kind of discount can you offer us forum members?
