I have heard that the mmr products arent too bad, I guess its more the wait for them thats a pain. There pricing is pretty good.
I am not sure how limited your funds are but the shortblock I want is the 5.3L 3V 323 shortblock from dss racing...Its the new Iron boss block, a little heavy yes but there is not replacement for displacement.
Haha the vids are in my thread "Anyone install a parachute on an S197"

(Sorry for the highjack)

I got my block in 1 week. There was a $200.00 extra charge for expediting! I think that's pretty reasonable since all of my stuff had to be coated and such!

There are several others running MMR. Guys like Forensic Steve for instance!

I'd just stay away from that billet oil pump. It's junk in my opinion. I run the stock one.

If I had the money I would get the Livernois 298 stroker!!!! I'm looking for other more pocket friendly alternatives ( I know that a big part of that is the aluminum block, but I wouldnt mind the extra few lbs of the iron block if it translated into good saving$.

Is your car a daily driver? If not, forge the stock one. Already paid for a perfectly good block, might as well use it

It's a good point. However my speed shop worked out the price of forging my existing block vs. buying a new one, and the price is about the same. It might save you $100-$200. The labor is more intensive with the Stock Block is what I'm told.

Plus the down time. That is why I plan to get a forged SB and sell my stocker to someone else for about $1500.
