Does anyone know if there are any after market steering wheels available for the s197 cars?

I'm not sure about aftermarket steering wheels, but you can purchase a GT500 steering wheel from Ford. I think the rim is thicker and they have contoured grips.

Edit: You can also get a Bullitt steering wheel. They are cheaper and have black stitching instead of red.

There was a company that was offering a wooden steering wheel like the ones on the '69 but I haven't been able to find it. It was really expensive, they were about $1000. They looked great but I did not think it was worth that much.

Not unless you want to remove your airbag. I have seen some companies that will customize the stock steering wheel with carbon fiber or color coordinated pieces etc.

Since I installed a rollbar and harnesses one of my next upgrades is going to be to remove the stock steering wheel. I have the parts but just havent had the time to do it.

I have the Bullitt steering wheel and I love it. Much better looking than OE, uses stock airbag and has all the buttons for the cruise control. Easy to install too. I forget what I paid for it, but it wasn't too bad.

Although I think anything based on the stock steering wheel looks like crap. But it is about the only thing you can do if you want to keep the airbag. Enjoy.

^ love the blue accents you have opposed to the chrome, how easy was it to remove those pieces and paint them?

I just got the Bullitt from Kevin at Clevenger Ford. He has them in stock and a great price for the feel. Leather wrapped and contoured. Plus the stiching isnt red like the GT500 wheels. Install in 20 minutes.
