Default Anyone made their own hood struts?

just wondering if anyone has made their own hood struts instead of buying them. if so, how much did it run you and what parts did you need?

yes, i know it's easier to just buy them already made, but i'm bored and want some kind of diy project to do for my car

A CNC mill would be nice.
And figuring the amount of pressurized shock
that it will take to lift your hood instead of
bending it should take quite a while.

Some kits softly lift the hood from 10" open to fully open.
Some require that they be lifted and only HOLD the hood
open. Some open fully be themselves once the secondary
latch is released. Some cannot be controlled and open
quite quickly. All but the first tend to resist closing and
a potential hood bending could occure while closing too
fast. Its only aluminum.
Looking for a mod?
Do you have the ever missing A-Arm brace from the factory?
Some did and some didnt from 05-08.
Or how about blacking out all the sheet metal behind you grill
for that stealthy look?
Or how about adding a few more horns to beef up the OEMs?
Or some extra underdash lighting that seems to be missing?

I think it would be neat to have a key fob that popped the hood, like the trunk, and hydrolic cylinders raised the hood in a smooth, controlled manor.

Press that button at speed and all heck would break loose, and the hood.
Or accidentally pop it when you didnt want to like in the middle of the night...

Wow, the Quote button corrects spelling errors as well.

i agree that would be kind of cool, but i could also see someone hitting the button and opening the hood while driving... that equals bad

thanks for the ideas 157; i haven't checked to see if i already have an a-arm brace, but those are sort of the kinds of mods i'm talking about. do you think that could be a diy project? if not, do you know of a good, yet inexpensive one? (i'm on a rather 'tight' budget, but still have the mod bug)

Ok, how bout a button that has a spring loaded slide over it, to prevent this. Or make it functional only when the engine is not running.

The painted tail light bezels are a cheap/sexy mod. Search should bring something up
