Default Shaker 500 needs help!

O.k, my daily driver went in to have some 4x4 work done so I decided to drive my 2000 GT with the Mach stereo for a few days. It has been quite some time since I last drove it because I mainly drive my 2005 since I bought it and boy let me tell you that Mach stereo puts the Shaker 500 to shame! The Mach stereo offers a very nice bass tone in which the Shaker 500 lacks. I can turn the bass all the way up in my 2005 and can't get close to the sound of the Mach stereo with the bass not even turned half way up. Is it just me or did Ford really mess up with the Shaker system!? Anyways, this has convinced me that my 2005 GT needs a speaker upgrade. I don't want to run subs as I enjoy the trunk space when needed so has anyone upgraded speakers to improve the quality? If so, let me know what you used. Also, does anyone know by chance what size the stock speakers in our cars are? All thoughts are appreciated.

I added sound deadener inside my doors and it made a huge difference in the sound. The bass sounds much stronger now.

Turn bass up almost all the way and make it more to the rear and it works for me!

No guys, the stock system is bad. I think I've seen some Pioneer products in some peoples cars...

Go to crutchfield.com and enter your car into their website. They will tell you what will fit in the doors and the rear deck.

I like the JBL 2-way speakers on their website (mainly because it uses a 1" tweeter). Has anyone switched out the factroy speakers for these? I would like to hear a review.

Adding a new headunit will make a big improvement as well. Most come with a built in 100 watt amplifier and this makes the stock system sound better.

I think the bass is sufficient in our cars but the high end is severly lacking. The first speakers I would add would be tweeters followed by the rest.

Also, there are some really great sub enclosures that don't take up too much room. I know MTX makes one for the mustang and so does JL.

I love my shaker 1000 since I didnt have to put anything aftermarket in. Sounds better than the bose in my infiniti did. I think they did better with the shaker 1000 over the mach 1000 for the reason that you can now use the trunk.

Yea I like the shaker better than the mach too. Does the 2000 have subs in the back? I'm guessing not?

The 2000? Do you mean 1000?

My 1000 has 2 10" subwoofers in the trunk with the amps behind them. Looks like this:

Leaving it wont hurt anything. Ford has replaced mine before and they start making noise again, just the way it is till you upgrade to the heavy duty ones.
