Actually "5.0 Mustangs and Fast Fords" just did an article in one of the latest issues on replacing an S197 audio system.

i had an 04 with a mach 460 and i perfer the shaker 500 with the 2 8s in the doors. i would like to upgrade the amps to the subs. the high range is ok for me but the subs could use more power... you can hear it. anyways if anyone can offer a wiring diagram i would be very appreciative to find out how to wire it in. i like the oem head unit more then any other and refuse to put in an aftermarket one as it makes it a thief magnet.
i did up my 04 in a 1000 dollar kenwood exceleron head unit, 2 10s and amps caps ect ect. i still like the shaker over all the aftermarket.... subs in the door make a convertable beter. anyways any diagrams/ help?????

My 1000 has 2 10" subwoofers in the trunk with the amps behind them. Looks like this:

No I was talking about the year of the car. My other Mustang is a 2000 GT with the Mach 460. I did have a 02 GT some time before that with the Mach 1000 and boy was that a great system! I have never heard the Shaker 1000 so I can compare the two but I do think the Mach 460 puts my Shaker 500 to shame.

i put in an aftermarket headunit and it made a significant difference. Another nice feature from doing that is most aftermarket head units have equalizers and all sorts of adjustability to get the sound just how you like it.
Also i agree that dynomatting the doors would help a lot, mine rattle like crazy.
