Buy Leftover 2008 GT or Pre-Modded?
#25
sorry, but I gotta recommend going against the most of these posts and recommend you just buy an earlier, used S197. If you're going to mod it why get a new car? You'll get hit with the depreciation the second you drive off the lot. There's not much logic to spending so much just for that "new car smell"!
Your "great deal on a GT Premium" for $25K (US!) will be worth under $20K in one year! Even less if you modify it.
Get a low mileage, stock S197 from 2005 or 2006 for under $17,000 and you'll save even more on taxes, license, etc.
With the way the economy is going I wouldn't blow too much $$$ on a car for the next few years. Better to put that money to work for you and invest it, but that's just my thoughts.
Either way, it would be interesting to see what colors are still available this late in the season on the 2008's.

Orion - You sound like a financial advisor.. and a GOOD one! PM me your stock picks please..? Makes sense to take a low-miles stock S197 for 17K and add 3-5K in my own PERSONALLY chosen mods, so I've got 20-22K into the car ALL DONE. And the fun of doing my own mods is not to be discounted..LOVE working on that stuff!
Therefore, the only way I'd go for the leftover 2008 Orange GT I mentioned in the OP would be if they threw in the 3.73 gearing and CAI/Exhaust/Tune for 25K OTD.
And the guys who say Saleen, Roush, Foose, etc.. THAT's a great idea! eBay has a few @ 25K or so.. which is what I'd probably pay for the stock 08, but with the Saleen I don't have to throw down another 3-5K for mods, so THIS may be the best solution...
Thanks SO MUCH for all your advice guys - I'm going to keep you updated as this comes to fruition. In light of how EXCITED I am @ the moment, I'm probably not gonna pull the trigger before March just to be SURE I've done my homework!

If you could get a modded one from someone you knew and trusted, then go for it. Just remember....saving a some dough on the original purchase of the car could turn into a headache later if the car has been through hell or in an inexperienced fool's hands......
