Question Car Acted Like It Was On 7 Cylinders

After already putting about 50 miles on the car with several stops, I fired her up from the outlets in Ocean City to head back home. When I took off from the parking lot, I noticed that it had no power and the car was vibrating. It felt like it had lost a cylinder and was running on only 7. No guts at all, shifter vibrating when giving any gas. I hit the system check buttons during this and everything was OK.

After about 2 miles like this I pulled over in a lot to see if I was mistaken that it was the engine (tires) and to see if shutting of the car and turning it back on would work. Tires were fine, started it back up after about 2 min and everything was fine. Drove it 30 miles home with out issue and have since started it again with no issue. It wigged me out pretty good though.

I have just under 11,000 miles on the car, do not beat on it (actually baby it), and it's maintenance record is flawless. I've had it since new and never had this happen nor has it been in the shop for anything. The car does not have a tune.

Anyone heard of this before? Had it happen to them? Is it a fluke? If it does it again, I guess I'll take it in.

Thanks!

There's the cause. These cars are intended to be beat on. Your car was complaining "Let's go!!! Put the pedal to the metal!!!"

yea, maybe one cylinder was'nt firing for whatever reason, cop, plug, fuel injector ,etc. my car has acted funny a time or two since iv'e had it. since it was shortlived, i would'nt worry too much about it.

If you didnt throw a DTC, I would not worry about it.
Some Magellan GPS units have been known to cause
PCM malfunction issues.

Wow, sounds very very similar to what happened to me about 10k miles ago, but right after an oil change at the dealership. Drove it off the lot and basically the same thing happened after 5-6 miles of normal operation. No check engine light, but shifter would vibrate like hell, no response, etc. Tried restarting it, but it actually continued to be a problem. It was only THEN that the check engine light came on. I didn't have a tuner at the time to check the code, and I didn't feel comfortable driving it anywhere, so the dealership picked it up on a flatbed and took it back for free, since it happened right after they had it.

They claimed it threw a whole mess of codes that "didn't make any sense" (they wouldn't tell me WHICH codes...), but they claim they started it up and it ran fine. They also drove it around a few times and everything was fine. I was skeptical, but...I've been driving it around ever since with no issues.

Maybe you and I got a Windows Blue Screen Of Death....?
