Default Is the 3M tape bad for the paint?

3m tape, i believe that's what it is, the stuff that's used to attach louvers,
or in particular the tape that's included with the CDC 1/4 window louvers...

can/does it cause any damage to clearcoat upon removal?
anyone had good or bad experiences removing parts taped with this?

I had no problems what-so-ever with it. Use some goo be gone and a hair drier and peel away slowly, or use fishing line.. I removed my rear black out panel and it came off without any issues. Some elbow grease to take some adhesive off, but that's about it

From my experience with my own car it does not harm the clearcoat or paint. What will harm it is having something else rubbing down on it like metal spacers or a spoiler that constantly rubs down on it among other things.

nope, it doesn't hurt the paint. you should see how many oem parts are held on with 3m tape

as for removal, i just took a hair dryer and let the area with the tape heat up; it pretty much peeled right off

I wouldn't dare take off my side scoops after using 3M.

The shop said that it wouldn't be that big of a deal to remove,
but I won't chance it by myself. Make it someone else's'
problem if they remove it, they fix it.

Here is my solution, which is fool proof.....I am a very big supporter of 3M clear bras, I have it installed on all my vehicles. I have Roush louvers on my car, soooo, what I did was from the templates that come with the louvers, I made, out of the 3M clear bra material, 2 custom pieces, which are pretty much the same size as the lovers, that fit between the louver and the paint so there is no rubbing, no scratching. The 3M material comes off easy with a hair dryer.

Id say the tape should be fine on cured surfaces.

Gothamems, thats a very unique and pretty cool idea there. I assume you forego the brackets and just stick the louvers on?

There is absolutely no difference in installation with my Roush louvers, with the 3M film sandwiched between, as there is without it. Once the 3M film dries, there is far more surface area, than you'll ever need, "bond" wise, between the 3M film and the paint, to ever worry about adhesion or friction, "rubbing", complications, primarily contact with the edges. To put it into perspective, 3M tape and friction related contact with the surface of my paint, will never be an issue, because nothing actually ever touches my paint. I came up with this on my own, and YES, I'm a fanatic when it comes to this car, LOL! I also had my 3M guy custom make me pieces for my CDC classic chin before it was painted, I installed the CDC then had him apply the custom clear bra. My next project involving the 3M clear bra, is to apply the same process as the louvers, to side scoops, when I decide to order them. Any questions about this 3M material, please feel free to ask, I've done more research on this stuff than anyone, and FULLY stand behind this product. I live in NE and have had a 3M clear bra on my truck for 6 years, not a blemish to the front of it. I have pics of everything to. I DO NOT SELL OR WORK FOR A COMPANY WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL, I have personal experience with 3M and have witnessed the results.

Thats the same way with me I figure that if they screw it up i will have someone to blame but if i screw it up i blame myself and have to take it in anyway, so why not just skip the middle man
