Default Warranty work

Hi guys. I have a Pony Package convertible and the frame has been pinching the cloth top since I bought it. I took it in at 12,000 miles to have the dealership look at it and possibly adjust the frame, and they said there was nothing wrong with it. They wouldn't even attempt to adjust the frame. Now it's about to wear a hole through the top. I'm still under warranty (just barely, at 32,000 miles). Is this something that you think they'll cover without giving me much trouble? It was built in the summer of '07 so isn't directly covered by the convertible top wear TSBs, which say the car had to be built before 11/06. OTOH, TSB 07-17-8 seems to be a general catch-all TSB for almost anything that could go wrong with a convertible. It seems obvious that either the design or the poor alignment is the cause of the wear. What can I expect when I take it in?

I expect if the top is wore through...a new top.

I wouldnt expect them to treat the cause at all....just preparing you for disappointment.

Kind of what I figured. I'm hoping, since they contract this kind of work out to local shops, the installer might take it upon himself to adjust the frame. Maybe.

Ask to speak with the factory rep. They have more leway than the dealer. You can get the number from the service manager. Be sure to take photos with a date and time stamp of the damage and the odometer to validate your claim

Thanks, man. Appreciate the tip. Do you think I should ask to speak to the rep even if they agree to adjust the top?

They might try to deny repairing if they think you were racing. One trip at local dealer the service rep was talking about a vert brought in with such a problem and they weren't going to fix it because of racing.
Good luck and go higher up until you get it resolved.

Hah! They're going to have a hard time making the claim that I was racing. I'm pretty much bone stock except for the exhaust, and have never once burned rubber. Seems like a straight ahead warranty repair, albeit an expensive one given the small amount of damage. That's what scares me.

Did they say they'd fix it if there was a hole? Because that's what I was told the last time I took it in. Wouldn't it be better for them and cheaper to try to do something about it BEFORE the top gets a hole in it?

nope because by the time there is a hole your warranty wil lprobably be over.. so rub one in. If there is a hole they cannot say that normal wear and tear
