Default Tire Question?

I recently got my nitto 555's from american racing in chicago for a great price, is there a problem with running 255/45/18 and 285/40/18's? are the 45's just a little taller will this look bad?

I think that's what the GT500s run. Looking at GT500s, I cant tell that much of a difference in tire height.

255/45/18 and 285/40/18 have almost the same overall diameter.
You have a good setup, this is as close as it gets to stock diameter.

Definately a nice combo and those 285's will look killer on the back, especially in contrast to the 255's up front. Sweet.

You will have absolutely no problem running these two sizes. This is exactly the set up I have and IMO they look great. Actually, the tire conversion tables show both sizes at 27 in diameter. However, the only thing you are not going to like is the larger space you will now have at the top of your rear wheel wells. Ahhhhhhh, but good excuse to get it lowered now as well.....

I have been wondering about running different diameters . I think this is the right time to ask a question . I hope not to hijack this thread as I think it is still on the topic.

How much different in diameter between the front compared to back is possible without setting off the tpms or the TC . I know this is a strange question but doesn't the tc compare the front tire speeds in comparison to the rear to determine tire slippage .

If the front tires are smaller in diameter wouldn't the TC kick in sooner when the rear tires start to spin .
Also if the front tires are taller than the rear due to running low air pressure in the rear tires at the drag strip . wouldn't this make the TC kick in later .

anyone know how sensitive the systems are ?

One other thing about running different diameter tires . The taller than stock diameter tires put more strain on the brakes . Running smaller than stock diameter tires puts less strain on the brakes in theory . They also change the gear and speedo ratios .

hey I was doing a compare at the tire rack and some of the 255/45/18's are 27 inch diameter the same as the the 285/40/18s 27 inch . did not compare the nittos though . If you are going to have a set of tires that you cant rotate and you are hard on the rear set the rear two will wear out before the front but if you are easy on the rear the front will wear out first . I only state this because if you are hard on the rear one option is to have the front tires shaved . from what I can tell by looking at multiple tires is that the biggest difference is 27 inch vs 27.1 inch . one of the things I was noticing between tires of the same size is the difference in Revs Per Mile .

just because the overall diameter is more doesn't mean the the revs per mile are more . especially if you have the front shaved . either way you will be ok .
