Default Gear install prices and what do I need

I currently have a 3.73 gears for the 7.5 Rear and I plan on getting a Posi Traction lock also. I just talked to a guy @ a performance shop (not the one I used for my Dual Exhaust install b/c the guy was out so I couldnt get a price quote today) . Anyways he suggested I replace the bearings as well when I change the gears . I assume he means this .

http://www.americanmuscle.com/rearendrebuild1.html

however he said install of gears, bearings and T-loc would be $600 ! that seems pretty high to me and I vaguely remember when talking to the guy after my local performance shop saying something like $300 install of gears after I got my Duals.

so what is a good price for install of gears, t-loc- and bearings. And I'm just curious what would happen if you dont change the bearings .

i have an 07 gt and here is what i spent. 175 grears + 125 bearing kit + 50 grear oil + 360 for installation. i know it is way too expensive but i didn't want any troubles. turned out that i showed up early too pick up my car and they were training a new guy on gear installation and i was watching him and he didn't know what he was doing. i have only driven the car once since gear install and not hearing any whine yet. THAT'S MY LUCK!!!

Wow! That sucks. You have to be nervous when someone who doesn't know what they are doing is poking around in your rear end.

600 for a gear install is ridiculous! I paid $300 for my install and I've had zero problems. From what I was told, the bearings kit is necessary when installing the t-lok in the 7.5 rear end so I did that too. Whether that's true or not, I've had no issues. Good luck, just do some research on install shops in your area.

But you need 2 or 3 quarts IIRC.

I paid $300 for the install.

To the poster who said he watched some first timer do his. I'd have gotten the shop owner and stopped that. No way would I pay that much to take the chance that a newb would screw something up. Good luck with it though.....
