Default Driveline Clunk

I'm wondering about a driveline clunk my car has. I don't know if it's the susp, the rear or what. I don't think it's the strut issue that people have had. I had clunking from turning the wheel a while back and the dealer said the car needed updated struts. That sound is fixed now but it's something else.

The defining characteristic that seperates my problem from other's is that the clunking only occurs in neutral. Usually at low speeds when coming to a stop when I take the car out of gear. A while back I thought it was the LCAs but I don't think it is. (Also I can't remember now but I could have sworn it clunked while driving in gear the other day)Anyway, any ideas???

Perhaps. That could also explain the neutral vs. in gear difference

Hmmm and this was making noise while in neutral but not while in gear?

On your original clunking noise, did it happen consistently when turning...especially if just changing directions? Mine is doing it almost all the time and I'm curious if anyone knows what it is.

I believe the noise is in the transmission itself.
I put in a 1 piece DS and it didn't fix the noise. When changing the drive shaft I noticed that you can take the transmission output flange and twist it back and forth quite a bit and it makes the sound that we're hearing.

For me it's most noticeable when I pull into my driveway and I have it in neutral.
When the wheels go over bumps it makes a clackety-clack noise.
But, if I put it in 1st gear and creep down the driveway it's completely silent.

I think the only solution to this noise may be a lot of Dynamat.

THIS sounds like it! It seems to happen when in nuetral over bumps when coming to a stop. The sound also seems to be more pronounced when coming to a stop with the wheel turned

I have the same clunk sound, and I have a 1pc drive shaft as well, I noticed it does it when I put the clutch sometimes. It's been doing it ever since I've had the car, there are no mechanical problems so I just learned to live with it.
