How Bad the fuel consumption gets after install of 4:10 Gear?
I am considering on installing 4:10 gears on my 2007 GT/CE Convertible with K&N Cold air intake Borla Stingers and an SCT Tuner. The car has 29000miles. I am currently getting about 25mpg highway at 80mph type of driving and about 15-16 City stock tune.
Additionally are the Gears something I can install myself? I am fairly handy, but with little experience on mods. (I have installed all the mods listed above plus changes all the lights on the car).
Thanks a lot for your input

Unless you've done this before, DO NOT do the gears yourself. It's hard to get them to not whine, even when done by people with experience. Take it to a performance shop.
4.10s may improve your city MPG but hurt your highway unless you stay under 60 to 65. 70mph or more will cause a MPG drop for sure. I've heard several people get 1 to 2 less.

i'd change the bearing since you'll be in there anyway. i had mine installed for 200 bucks. definitely not something i could have done myself. i have about 40k miles with mine and no problems. you'll notice a huge difference and be glad you did it.

Personally if you worry about gas mileage with getting a new gear (4.10's) then why even do the mod....not trying to be a dick but it may seem that way....go for it and have them installed professionally and get a guarantee against whine....then enjoy (regardless of MPG)
(oh many have stated in the past 1-2 mpg sacrifice at cruising speeds {not 80 MPH})

I have gotten up to 25 mpg on the highway with my 4.10's installed. I also have a JLT intake with 93 octane tune installed and manual tranny. I usually get around 20 mpg driving around town. Installing the gears is not the easiest job either. Is does take some specialized tools.
