Default acrylic headlight covers look like crap - trying to clean

I picked up a polishing/wet sanding kit to polish my headlight covers and they look worse than when I started! I rubbed on one for 30 minutes.

what's the best way to get the rock chips out of these things??? replace altogether?

Rocks chips are pretty deep and I think most Kits are for fine scratch's and discoloration..What grit is the sandpaper ? You might have to go w/ a coarser grit and work your way to the finer. If you dont want to put that much elbow grease and effort into it I say replace. I've spent a couple hours on some headlight covers to get them looking nice and then in a few months thet look like crap again.

whoa.. that's what I'm thinking.. it may just be worth my while to replace.

I scrubbed on these things with 1600 grit wet. then the polish for 30 minutes.. they don't look much better.

the dings are just soooo deep.

Anyone know how to replace these things? and how much the replacements are?

Yea, I did my daughters '99 cougar, it was such a pain in the a** that I went out and bought a small hand palm buffer and that sped up the process some but like I said in a few months they were yellow looking again and Im going to have to rebuff when it warms up around here. Dont know where to buy new and what cost is , Id start looking at the vendors on here first.

ughhh... ok thanks for the advice. I thought I could easily make them look like new again. I'm going to clean, polish, wax my entire car tomorrow.. We're having a cold snap that will bring the temp down from 80+ and muggy to 60 and brisk so it's a good time to get out and detail.

I may just hit the dealer and replace the covers.
