Anybody from Illinois or anywhere else done a emission test without cats on car and Passed? The company who tuned the car said I should have know problems. Just curious with other fellow none catted Mustangs. Im a little nervous.

I don't know of any required emmission tests in Illinois. Why do you think you need to? Maybe it's a city requirement somewhere, but I am not aware of any cities that require it either....

You most likely will not pass. Simple fix, email brenspeed he will send you an emissions safe tune.

Reason you wont pass is too many monitors will read not ready.

If you want to find out, cruise by an auto zone and ask them to scan it for monitor readiness.

flash emissions safe tune, drive for a few days, go take the test, pass, reflash back to previous tune.

Thank you,I will go to a auto zone. Yes cars do have to pass emissions in Illinois after there 4 years old. You receive a notice in the mail. Brenspeed was the one who tuned it,and said it would be okay.

Lookup your state's inspection parameters and requirements. If OBDII tests are performed, the "monitor readiness" conditions will be important. THEN you have to have as maximum some number of 'not ready' tests for it to pass.

We have that here in parts of Texas, and only 1 system can be 'not ready'. PITA!

I'm not sure about IL but here in NJ they do the plug in test for OBDII and you are allowed only one "not ready" to pass. Just as a side note, all of the state run places in NJ also do a "visual inspection" for the cats as well. (slide a mirror under the car and look for them) You may want to check and make sure they don't do this in IL or the other states as well. Before anyone says it, I know NJ sucks for car inspections!

I'm confused...I live in Illinois and have never heard of emmissions testing here and I have a 6 year old van. This can't be a state law - is it county or city requirements?

Lovely Cook county, and maybe a few more.
I believe we also have the highest tax rate in the country

Yes 1 not ready is still passable. Slightly older cars are allowed 2.
I have not seen them do a mirror test looking for cats unless you failed for mechanical reasons and they were looking for repairs.

Id love it for them to do the IM240(240 seconds) test on the rollers with my car, lol.

Had my work van inspected and no mirrors anymore. Just plug in.
