Angry crap...wrong gas!

I'm currently running a 93 tune and accidentially filled with 89 octane. Am i safe? Will I notice any difference? Thanks!

cant you just tune back to stock, or a 89 tune?

I dont have any tunes yet, but i think you will be ok, just a little rough riding and maybe knocking. But thats just from what ive read around, so dont take my word for it. Id change tunes if possible, unless someone else chimes in who knows

Not 100%, but I'd say that's probably a really bad idea. Do you have a 89 tune you can load? If not, you should probably return to stock. This is 250 or so miles we're talking about.

reflash it with a canned tune for the ocane you have in the tank.
you will lose some power but its hard to say if you'll notice it.
NO you cannot run a 93 tune (especially a "custom" tune) on 89 octane. yes we have knock sensors in our motors but you can still cause damage.

factory tune wont work becuae he has a jlt intake and he will run lean and have just as many issues as runnig low octane.
RUN A CANNED TUNE FOR THE OCTANE YOU HAVE IN THE TANK

No, you're probably not safe. The differance between an 89 and a 93 tune is simply the timing curve. More timing requires more octane to resist detonation. Running more timing with low octane fuel will allow detonation to occure. That will break ring lands. That's a bad thing.

You could add some octane booster. But trying to get regular to premium level isn't easy. Rasing pump gas 4 octane points is very difficult. You would need a lot of additives.

You really only have 2 choices. 1. Drain the tank and refill. 2. Install a stock tune for a little while.

You could drain the tank to about 1/2, and then refill with 100 octane leaded racing fuel - if you can get it.

I only have three tunes: 87, and two different 93 tunes. Should I load the 87 Brenspeed tune? That sounds better than stock.

I did this once and nothing bad happened. You're not going to kill your engine. I just stayed light on the throttle, no WOT or heavy throttle, and I was fine. I only got a little pinging when I was about 1/4 left and I forgot and I went heavy on the throttle a little. But it was no worse than the pinging I normally get when I run 93 (I have a 91 tune but I still get pinging > 4K with heavy throttle unless it's cold out).

As long as you're not FI don't worry. Just keep it cool with the throttle and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Should I play it safe and load the 87 tune?
