ECM/JCB HELL ON EARTH! thank you to the SECA!
Hello all,
Long story put short, 7 hours spent in a parking lot of Tim Hortons with a fried ECM.
So heres the whole story, I went to meet a new member to this forum for a cup of coffee and to hear his longtubes. I decided the car was dirty and under hood too! So i gave her a bath and drove about 10KMs (6 miles to the south side of the city to meet nick. As i pulled up the car was acting funny. I instantly shut down the car and went to re-tune the car, just after the car re-loaded the new tune the sarter started firing and as the car was in first the car started to move forward! I put it in neutral and popped the trunk, grabbed my tools and disconnected the battery as fast as i could. I figured the starter might have had a loop in it so i lifted the car and inspeceted, nothing, all looked well, so tried to start again. with the key in run position, not starting, as soon as i depressed the clutch the car did the starter loop again. ok I called nick on his way and told him to bring tools..... nice first meeting. anyways he came, we took off the fuse cover under hood and saw water OH **** so pulled apart and pulled all the fuses and went to go get compressed air in a can (computer cleaning stuff) went to 5 different places and no luck! after canadian tire (pep boys if you will) didnt have it we go electrical contact cleaner/ dryere and sprayed it down one by one, reconnecting and still same thing. Nick called up the president of the car club he just joined SECA (Stang Enthusiest Club of Alberta) and the prez just said IM ON MY WAY! he drove probably 30 KMS just to come help! He then started calling members for help after going through the take apart dry and retry... (same thing reccomeded by all my master HD mechanics over the phone from work) which i will say NONE came to help! WTF!!!! Finally we got ahold of one member who is a Red seal mechanic who is a ford tech and he came down, We did a master restart (remove BOTH positive and negative cables for 45 minutes) to let the JCB do a master restart and at this point i was willing for anything. MAN we had the ECM out of the car on the dash of nicks stang for about an hour with the defrost on max to try to dry out any water out of the ECM We didi it all!!!
So the car sat and i was thinking how much it would suck to strip parts off the car before taking it to the stealership and finally we went to start.... batteries dead.
ok push start! VRMMM but STOCK TUNE, running on parts listed below NOT GOOD!
ok gotta charge the battery, leave EVERYTHING on A/C, lights, interior lights, defrost EVERYTHING let it idle for 20 minutes. ok retune to proper tune. and sucesses....
the Prez followed me home to make sure all was well....
Needless to say. I WOULD HAVE NOT KNOWN WHAT TO DO WITH OUT SECA!
I thank the SECA and all there members (those who came to help in person and those who were searching the net madly looking for help and so on and so on.)
without these guys my car would be on a hook and at the stealership waiting for them to laugh at me after they pop my hood and go.. you want warranty on that???
So heres the deal... Im the newest member of SECA and I would reccomed this club to anyone in alberta as i can tell by first hand that they will do anything to help..
as the pres said "we aint leaving till your up and running!" and sure enough after 7 long hours she drove home!
THANK YOU SECA!

HAHAHAH no moral of the story is washing the engine bay is a hand job not a pressure wash job
As for the long tubes... they are elcheapo boost brothers, they required cutting/ bending/ and welding. (hes a welder by trade) no cats, and flows 44s. they sound pretty good i have to admit! there is a tingy sound instead of drone in the normal 1600-2000k ish or around there but it really sounds good.
Anyways im thinking some modification to my cats will be done soon...
either way a totally crap day that would have been way worse if it wasnt for my new club! I cant believe how so many people just jumped to help out!
