OEM HID Replacement
Ok so i have the OEM HIDs on my 2008 GT. I wanted to buy a new HID lighting kit (55w) from Retro Solutions. Now, they said they have not worked with the OEM HID, and do not guarentee/know if it would be directly plug and play.
Has anyone seen what the setup looks like on the OEM HIDs (as far as wiring and whatnot goes), to see if it is setup the same way you would wire an aftermarket HID setup such as one from RS?
Are aftermarket HID kits plug and play with the OEM HIDs?
I know RS offers a bulb coating option needed on some mustangs. I am confused as to if i need it or what it is needed for. I think from what i understand it is needed on the halogen housing headlamps for S197s, so the light isn't scattered everywhere.
Also would love to see any pics of 6000K/8000K HIDs, fogs and headlights if people have them.

I can't answer this 100% cause I'm not 100% sure...
However if you just want to replace the bulb, you can (I don't see why not). You just have to make sure the wattage is the same. You shouldn't need a ballast or anything else like that since we already have one in the OE.
If you want to replace the housing itself, thats possible, but you don't need to replace anything else for the most part except for the bulb and maybe some wiring.

Edit: I'm not interested in replacing the stock headlight housings, as i heard most aftermarket ones would actually give me less performance then the stock ones. I'm just wanting to switch to 8000K bulbs and a 55w digital ballast, and want to replace the stock bulbs and ballasts.

What you're asking is almost impossible, and that digital balast thing is marketing BS.
I did something similar to what you're asking myself but my car is probably one of the more highly modified ones here and I had to get the housing modified custom with the help of the supplier to do it. it took a month of work.

My headlight housings are the ones he has in the 6th picture down. These are OEM HID housings, they have to pass standards for street legal use. They are designed to correctly run HIDs. I can't imagine pulling out the ballasts to be anything overly difficult and putting new ones in. I'm also sure the bulbs are easy to switch out. Matter of fact i believe there is a picture tutorial of HID replacement someplace on here, if anyone has a link to it that would be great.
Edit: These are the headlight housings that i have. http://www.steeda.com/products/ford_...pgrade_kit.php

Well i was just going to purchase a new HID kit because i wanted to go from 33 watts to a 55 watt system for additional lighting and since im getting that it comes with bulbs anyways, so all i have to do is choose a color.
I have a 2008 GT. My stock housings i posted a link to which are designed for street legal non-blinding HID use, should allow me to just drop in new ballasts and bulbs. I believe the cars use H13 for the bulb type.
Edit: I am confused. Why are you telling me i am going to have to modify the housings, in relation to the ballasts. How do the ballasts have anything to do with how the light is going to be reflected out onto the road (beam pattern is the term im thinking of i think). That should only be affected by the bulb and the way the headlight is designed, not anything to do with the ballast. The ballast only controls the functions of the headlight correct, such as when to turn on, etc.
Let me ask it this way, if my stock HID OEM headlight housings are meant to run HIDs, where is the problem coming in with replacing my whole HID system with new ballasts and bulbs? Worse comes to worse, would there be any beam pattern/blinding oncoming traffic problems if i left the ballasts alone and just replaced my stock HID bulbs with 8000K bulbs?
