To take a lug nut off - a guestament is around 100 ft.-lbs.
A 1/2" drive impact wrench will put out atleast 300 ft.-lbs. for a cheaper one.
I'd say you need more than 100 ft.lbs to remove lug nuts. More like 200 just to be on the sure side.

Thumbs up impact wrench

I don't know what part of the country you are in but around me they have a place called harbor freight tools that sells cheap import tools that will work just fine for light duty use. I wouldn't go cheap on the compressor though because that is a tool that could last the rest of your life if you get a decent one. A half inch impact from harbor freight would be just fine though for the occasional project.

That isn't too bad for the price.
That snap on cordless is nice but, holy schite it's almost more expensive than the 29 gal compressor and 1/2" air impact that I linked.

Chit, that's better than my 1/2" Craftsman Electric. I think mine is rated about 300 ft lbs.
