Most people use goo gone and a piece of fishing line to help separate the stock spoiler.

sounds right and after that follow with some alcohol so the oily nature of the goo gone wont interfere with the adhesion of the new 3M tape on the GT500 spoiler. Once installed make sure to wax all areas that are exposed to the goo gone and alcohol around the spoiler!

I just pulled my Roush rear spoiler in preperation for my mustang going to the painter for 10" stripe and hood/front end conversion.

In making it ready I had to pull the 8" vinyl stripes that had been on the car for over 2 years. The best adhesive remover hands down (for me anyway) was the 3m adhesive remover. It helped make the job 1000X easier.

Why wax? I would assume you want as few other substances between the adhesive and paint as possible. Sounds like Goo Gone, then clean with Isopropyl Alcohol. I would offer to help you out if you need anything, but I got 5 tests this week...

EDIT: I didn't see the "Once installed" part with regards to wax... I need to stop posting till I've had some coffee.

3m Adhesive Remover or the ever popular GooGone.
I would stay away from the Isopropyl Alcohol.
It leaves all kind of residue that reduces adhesion strength.
3M 4298 Adhesion Promoter is the only way to prep
for 3M Acrylic Adhesive.

99% alchi shouldn't leave any residue. The 70% might leave a little.

And you buy 99% alcohol where?
The best I have seen short of a lab supply house
is the 91% available at WalMarts.
And you dont state to use 99% in your post.
Most people have the plain ol 70% rubbing alcohol
and have never heard of the 91% variety.
If you are not specific with your answers, it
leave much up to the interpitation of the reader.

There is a reason 3M makes an adhesion promoter
for their acrylic adhesive tapes. It is what helps
'cure' the adhesive once its applied.
